TAPERING TOWER AND FINE FACADE OF THE PRIDE OF BRUSSELS The noblest building in Brussels — some say in the Netherlands — is its town hall, which stands on the south side of the market place, or Grand5 Place. It was begun in 1410, and its graceful, open spire was finished in 1454. On the summit is an unusual weather-vane — a gigantic gilded statue of St. Michael, brandishing a sword.
